BAND REHEARSALS
Updated plans on rehearsing with the 25 person group limit.. Rehearsals will occur Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-7:30pm with symptom checks beginning at 5pm. Follow the instructions carefully. Registration for voluntary fall marching band is now closed.
Guard and Percussion will rehearse as normal, the only change is symptom checks will occur in the front of the school on circle drive.
Woodwinds and Brass will still be split with Woodwinds on Tuesday and Brass on Thursday. We have to further divide the groups to stay below the 25 person limit in a given area. At no point may those groups combine. To do this we have to divide arrival times and departure times and keep a 30ft(10yd) buffer between the groups at all times. Staff and drum majors will also be required to maintain the buffer from students when in rehearsal.
TUESDAY: 5:00-5:15: Symptom Checks for Saxophones, Bass Clarinets, Drum Majors; 5:15-5:30: Symptom Checks for Clarinets and Flute. DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY OR LATE FOR YOUR CHECKS. These groups will be rehearsing together but on opposite sides of the field. Saxophones and Bass Clarinets will be dismissed at 7:20 and Clarinets and Flutes at 7:30.
THURSDAY: 5:00-5:15: Trumpets and Drum Majors; 5:15-5:30: Mellophones and Low Brass. DO NOT ARRIVE EARLY OR LATE FOR YOUR CHECKS. These groups will be rehearsing together but on opposite sides of the field. Trumpets will be dismissed at 7:20 and Mellophones and Low Brass at 7:30.
1 on 1 INSTRUCTION/HELP
The following was an e-mail sent from the PNHS Adminstration. The band directors are here to assist students with 1 on 1 instruction, if needed. For us to allow that, parents will need to complete the consent form.
“Dear Parents and Guardians,
While engaged in remote learning, it may be necessary to provide individual instruction to your child through videoconferencing or teleconferencing in order to supplement a large group discussion. In order to implement individual instruction via videoconferencing or teleconferencing, we need your consent to provide these services. If you have responded to a similar request from an individual teacher, please complete this form also. Please complete the form using the link below and submit no later than September 11th, 2020.”
CLASS SCHEDULES
Here is what your daily schedule should look like for band:
- 2nd Period (Symphonic Band)-The title is confusing, but this session is designated for Concert Band PERCUSSION. No one else should be enrolled in this.
- 3rd Period (Concert Band)-This is 9th grade Concert Band. No 10th-12th graders should be enrolled in this
- 4th Period (Symphonic Band)-This is the normal Symphonic Band.
- 6th Period (Wind Ensemble)
Also, tell Mr. Hatcher if you need to get the PE Exempt Form completed. (Juniors and Seniors, only)
DINING OUT
Mark your calendar! Our next dining out fundraiser will be on Monday, September 14th, at Portillo’s in Oswego.
SCHOOL (INSTRUMENTS AND SUPPLIES)
School begins remotely this week, this is a check to make sure you have everything you need for band classes.
PERCUSSION: To start the year you will need a DRUM PAD, STICKS,and a SNARE STAND. I do have some snare stands available for checkout. Here is what we suggest:
We set up a page through Lone Star Percussion to supply percussion students with the required materials they need. Students will earn free shipping and a t-shirt when they place an order with the code PLAINFIELDCSD2019
http://www.lonestarpercussion.com/Schools/Plainfield-North-High-School/
WOODWINDS/BRASS: You will need a working instrument with accessories(reeds, neckstraps, etc.) Be prepared to play during remote learning classes.
ALL STUDENTS: You should have a MUSIC STAND and an area where you can perform your instrument, comfortably. Music will be distributed through the computer for you to read it from a screen or print it off at home. A great accessory I highly suggest is a USB microphone. The computers distributed by the district tend to have latency issues with the built-in microphone. By upgrading your microphone, you’ll be able to sound better in your communication in all classes and your instrument will sound better when being recorded through the computer. You can get a decent one between $15 and $30 on Amazon. Again, just a suggestion through experience.
QUINLAN AND FABISH
Quinlan and Fabish, our district preferred music store, has their website operational and is shipping out stuff in a timely manner. If you need music supplies, visit www.qandf.com
